Gary Brindley
Founder & MD - Step3 Digital

Gary Brindley is the founder and Managing Director of Step3 Digital, a website design and development agency based in Hadlow, Kent. Step3 works exclusively with WordPress, helping small and medium-sized businesses build fast, secure, and user-friendly websites that genuinely support their goals.

Gary first got involved in digital media back in 1992, when he founded a company creating motion graphics for video production firms. That quickly evolved into a video production business producing content for broadcast and corporate clients. Through the 1990s, he found himself drawn to emerging technologies, working on interactive media for CDs and DVDs, before naturally progressing into web design as the internet began to take shape.

We’re proud of our local connections, particularly working with local charities including Nourish Foodbank and Trinity Theatre.

In 2005, Gary launched a new venture focused on designing and developing websites exclusively for further education colleges across the UK. Over the next decade, he grew the company into a trusted partner for the sector, before leaving it in 2016, in the capable hands of his business partner and team, to start Step3 Digital.

Step3 was built around a simple idea: make websites work better for the people who run them. No jargon, no retainers, and no disappearing after launch – just clear communication, strong processes, and ongoing support. Today, Step3’s work spans local independents, arts venues, and national organisations. Their projects include the redesigned website for Trinity Theatre in Tunbridge Wells, which has significantly improved usability, speed, and customer engagement, as well as a full digital rebuild for Damhurst, a London-based executive search firm.

Gary is particularly proud of Step3’s commitment to nurturing local talent. The agency has built a strong apprenticeship programme, helping young people in Kent kick-start their careers in tech – an approach recognised when Step3 was named Employer of the Year (Runner Up) at The Coders Guild Apprenticeship Awards 2024.

Beyond business, Gary describes himself as someone who embraces change – it’s been the one constant throughout his career. Whether adapting to new technologies, markets, or client needs, he sees change as an opportunity rather than a challenge.
